About Jess
My work is deeply rooted in Columbus, Ohio—the city I call home. Simply put, I like to paint the places I know, capturing the quiet, everyday dialogue between a city and the people who live in it. My path started back in a small town near Wheeling, West Virginia, where a mentor introduced me to oil painting when I was a kid. I was instantly hooked and I’ve been behind an easel ever since.
I went on to earn my BFA at the Columbus College of Art and Design on a full scholarship and spent a transformative semester studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Those years really shaped my desire to paint the world as I experience it.
Working from my own photography, I turn familiar street scenes into explorations of light, atmosphere and reflection. Rather than imposing a heavy narrative, my work relies on an expressive color palette and dynamic composition to evoke the temperature of a fleeting moment. Balancing realism with painterly abstraction, I aim to document both the enduring and transient qualities of the urban landscape—inviting viewers to walk away with a deeper sense of connection to a place.
Since 2016, I’ve been a member artist at Studios on High Gallery in the Short North. You can usually find me painting live on-site a few weekends a month and my work is collected worldwide.
